The Salesforce platform allows you to create and view reports which contain your data in an organised tabular or graphical way. You can examine your data in multiple combinations, display it in an easy to understand format, share the resulting insights with others and also export it from the platform.
Before building your first report, consider writing down each of the questions your report must answer. This way, you can be sure you pick up the right report type.
What’s a report type?
The report type is like a template which determines which objects and fields are available when building your report.
Report types are also based on the relationship between a primary object and its related objects.
For example, a report type based on Precursive Projects with at least one related record from Phases will include data available on both objects like Start Date, Forecast Revenue, Total Revenue, etc. but will not display Projects records without Phases.
Out of the box, Precursive provides a set of predefined report types. Don’t see all the fields you require? You might need to create a custom report type or clone an existing one to make it editable and add some custom fields because report types from managed packages cannot be edited.
